NEW MUSIC AND IMAGES INSPIRED BY CANADA'S WILD PLACES
Photographer Bill Pratt and the Raintree Earth Ensemble are proud to present Canada Wild, a multi-sensory experience of music and photographic images inspired by Canada's wild places: Arctic, Yukon & Algonquin. The evening features an original score of classical/world music written by Ian Douglas and performed by the Raintree Earth Ensemble [piano, cello, voice & percussion]. The soundtracks are performed live and sync with photo images on a giant screen — a visual and musical feast for the senses!
ABOUT THE SHOW
In 2014, photographer Bill Pratt and musician Ian Douglas collaborated on a project to combine dramatic images of Canada's wilderness with atmospheric music and sounds to express its rugged beauty. Over several months Ian composed music to capture the feeling and texture of Bill's images, which were then sequenced into three extended works.
Arctic Dreams is dark and haunting — featuring barren landscapes, icebergs, birds, and polar bears. Algonquin Wild is gentle, heartwarming and playful — with familiar woodlands, lakes, and creatures found in Algonquin Park. Yukon: Northern Autumn is majestic, vibrant and colourful — showcasing rugged mountain landscapes, birds and mammals of the Yukon wilderness. The evening includes personal stories and experiences that are reflected in the show.
The Raintree Earth Ensemble combines piano, cello, voice and unusual percussion sounds to evoke the moods and textures of 'Canada Wild'. The ensemble includes:
Ian Douglas (piano & hand-drums)
Kelly Sloan (voice)
Steve Smith (cello)
Neil Saungikar (percussion)
Steve Reside (percussion & voice)
